I killed a man says a 22 year old drunk driver

Wow, this was a very compelling video shown this morning on the Today Show where a 22 year old man confesses to killing a man on this highway while he was DUI and driving the wrong way.  His confession apparently takes place on YouTube and he seems very remorseful for his actions.  Clearly he still needs to face the music for his crime, but it is refreshing to see someone take responsibility for his actions and want to make it right (as much as you can when you kill someone).  AS attorneys, we are trained to tell our clients not to talk, keep quiet, and don't say anything that can incriminate you, as the burden is on the state to prove what you allegedly did.  This is the opposite of what this gentleman did here, despite being warned by other attorneys with which he had consulted.  He mentions that some attorneys told him to lie (which is scary and an ethical violation for the attorney) and that he could potentially get out of it, but instead he is taking responsibility.  I am sure his guilty conscience is motivating him to do this, but the good news is that he actually has a conscience unlike a lot of folks who might find themselves in a similar situation.  What do you think?  Is this motivated by a guilty conscience or the thought that it could have some strategic redeeming value to lower a potential future jail sentence he might receive?
